The Sonar-Cities project is a Horizon Europe-funded project analysing climate-induced health emergencies and disasters through research and participatory development of community-based, adapted tools for people facing vulnerabilities. 

The purpose of this website is to act as a communication, dissemination and information channel for the Sonar-Cities project stakeholders who are involved in and/or can benefit from the project’s information and outcomes. To allow for two-way communication, this website provides a contact form and e-mail address to contact the Sonar-Cities team. The website also includes the option to sign up to the Sonar-Cities newsletter. In this context, we collect and use personal data. 

This privacy statement outlines the types of personal data we collect, how they are used, and for what purpose. We recommend that you read this policy carefully. 

Personal data

Sonar-Cities believes that handling personal data with care is very important. The Sonar-Cities project website is part of the Sonar-Cities Coordination, Management, Ethics, and Communication Work Package, led by Institut Pasteur Paris (25-28 rue du Docteur Roux, 75015, Paris, France). 

When processing personal data, we comply with the requirements of privacy legislation. If you wish to contact us in regard to this privacy statement, please use the contact form on the Sonar-Cities website. 

The data we collect

While using our project website, depending on the features you use, we may process the following personal data: 

  • E-mail address
  • First name and last name

When you fill out a contact form on our website, or contact us in another way, we collect:

  • Basic identity information you provide us (such as your name and e-mail address);
  • The content of your communication and the technical details of the communication;
  • Any other personal data you choose to provide directly to us. 

Disclosure of data

Sonar-Cities may disclose your personal data in the good faith belief that such action is necessary. We may process the data mentioned above for one or more of the following purposes: 

  • to comply with a legal obligation;
  • to protect and defend the rights of the Sonar-Cities project;
  • to prevent or investigate possible wrong-doing in connection with this website;

Your personal data will not be used for any other purpose than the purposes for which you have provided the data to us, unless we receive your permission for this or are otherwise obliged or permitted by virtue of statutory provisions and/or quality rules.

Sharing with third parties

We do not give away, transfer, or sell your data to any third parties, unless this is required by law. We may only transmit your data to another data controller upon your request to exercise your right to data portability.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and rights of the data subject

In compliance with the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify, erase, and receive your personal data. To do so, please send an email with the subject line “Sonar-Cities website GDPR” to sonar-cities_management@pasteur.fr

Specifically, you shall have the right to obtain from the controller:

  1. information about your personal data stored at any time and a copy of this information (“ight of access by the data subject”);
  2. rectification of inaccurate personal data concerning you (“right to rectification”);
  3. erasure of personal data concerning you (“right to erasure or “right to be forgotten”; see GDPR Article 17);
  4. restriction of data processing (“right to restriction of processing”; see GDPR Article 18);
  5. personal data concerning you, which was provided to a controller, in a structured, commonly used, and machine readable format, including the possibility of transmission from the Sonar-Cities controller to another controller (“right to data portability”; see GDRP Article 20). In addition, you have the right to object to processing of your personal data (“right to object”). 

Security and storage

The Sonar-Cities project takes the protection of your data seriously and takes appropriate measures to prevent misuse, loss, unathorised access, unwanted disclosure, and unauthorised modification. 

Despite the far-reaching efforts of the Sonar-Cities project, no absolute guarantee can be given for protection against all threats. If you believe that your data are not secure or there are indications of abuse, please use the contact form to get in touch with us. 

The data in transit is encrypted using the most current version of HTTPS/TLS. 

Personal information collected via the contact form on the Sonar-Cities project website is stored in the Sonar-Cities website server located in AWS Servers, Milan, Italy. Personal data transmitted on a voluntary basis by a data subject to the data controller are stored for the purpose of processing the request or contacting the data subject. 

The Sonar-Cities project will run from 1 December 2024 until 30 November 2027. Funded by the European Commission (Horizon Europe Programme for Research and Innovation), the project reports its communication and dissemination activities, as well as its impact evalution, to the European Commission. To maximise its impact, the project uses this website as a communication channel. In this context, if you contact us via the contact form on this website or via the email address info@sonar-cities.eu, we will recover your name and email address to respond to your requests. The provided personal data will be exclusively used to assess your request and to provide the requested information.

Length of personal data storage

The Sonar-Cities project does not store data any longer than necessary. This means that we store data as long as necessary to provide the requested service, except for data that we have to keep for longer because the law obliges us to do so.  

Third-party websites

This statement does not apply to websites belonging to, or operated by third parties that are linked from the Sonar-Cities website.
